Survival: Galapagos Islands

Galapagos is a very small archipelago lost far out in the ocean. Extreme isolation of these 19 islands, led to the development of unusual animal life. Over the millions of years a chance brought original species of birds in a
storm, sea lions and penguins in currents, reptiles and seeds floating on rafts of vegetations across from the mainland which would eventually evolve into the unique Galapagos variety.

It’s a story of extraordinary survival that resulted in over 7000 flora and fauna species with more species endemic to the islands than not. Now the exotic species in The Galapagos Archipelago are facing new challenges, some even population declines as a result of a warming atmosphere, ocean acidification, expanding tourism industry as well as threats from pollution, illegal fishing and invasive species.
